Could the 3D Smith Chart be a design tool for the MW Circuit Designer?

The Smith chart was invented by P.H. Smith and published in 1939. His diagram is widely used in microwave engineering for plotting the reflection coefficient. The Smith chart is usually used in the unit circle of the reflection coefficient's plane in order to deal with passive circuits. The Smith chart active circuits design can be usually done outside of the classical unit circle region. If one works with diodes, amplifiers or oscillators it may get far away of the unit circle of the reflection coefficient's plane and different scaling problems occur when using the Smith chart. The Smith chart S parameter handling becomes a visual problem in unstable regions.
